We had a lively discussion following some ideas from Rob Bell's book "Velvet Elvis".
The aim was to investigate together what we believe about the Bible and how it should be applied today.
So what did we learn? There are no simple answers – if we disagree with someone (over an interpretation of scripture) we cannot be sure that we are right – we believe we are or we would change our opinions, but what if we are wrong? On the other hand is it enough to say “I can’t know I’m right so I’ll treat all interpretations as equally valid”?
So what can we do? Try to find and apply the truth of the Bible in the power of the Spirit. Avoid believing that we can always be right or that anyone who disagrees with us is refusing to believe the Bible – many interpretations are possible and there is no such thing as a simple literal reading.

We looked at ways of demonstrating our care for God's creation, as individuals, as households, and as small groups.
We listened to a talk giving the Biblical foundation for this.
Download a PDF of the talk here
We brainstormed some possible actions, and later signed up to try some of them out, one per week until the next "52 ways" meeting in a month's time.
