Way 23: Smile! Print E-mail

ImageIf you see someone who doesn’t have a smile, give them one of yours.

It doesn’t cost anything, except possibly your pride if you get scowled at, and even this is a worthwhile sacrifice.

Smiling uses fewer muscles than frowning, is very good for your health, and you may even change the course of somebody’s day.

Image How hard can it be?

If you don’t feel comfortable inviting them out for a curry / drink / coffee, then try starting by asking for their help with something, such as carrying a heavy piece of furniture upstairs or putting out your bins for you whilst you’re away.

Your neighbours may be more willing to lend a hand than to receive offers of help from you, and it could lead to a friendship that you weren’t expecting!
Way 16: Invite an International Student to Lunch Print E-mail

ImageCambridge has a disproportionately large number of International students. The prospect of living in a country with an unfamiliar language, culture and customs can be daunting.
Inviting an international student into your home can be a very special experience both for you and them and an excellent way of showing God’s love. It may also be their first opportunity to hear about the saving love of our Lord Jesus.

There are also various church activities that you could become involved with:

  • Thursday (7:45-10:30) The Barn – an International Coffee Bar
  • Sunday (after 10:30 service) International lunch

Speak to Liz Jeggo for more details.

ImageAre you a parent? Do you care about the children and families in your local community?
Most communities have groups for parents and babies and toddlers, as well as playgroups For example, Barnabas Bears meets in the Old School on Wednesday mornings and other local groups can be found on www.opportunity-links.org.uk

Showing our love for this section of our community can take several forms:
  • being part of local groups and making friends with other parents and children in your community
  • supporting their fundraising activities – you could go along to the nearly new sales, quizzes and other events praying for them and the people that go along.
